EPCOT? The King Rodent´s Lair

Disney EPCOT
THIS THESIS IS AVAILABLE FOR FREE IN THIS LINK. SOON TO COME IN ENGLISH

For decades, Disney and its company have managed to become a key driver for the creation of collective thought and imagery in our world. The evolution and refinement of the tools they use to shape a specific reality have allowed them to be a cornerstone and reference in terms of magic and dreaming.

The culmination of Walt Disney’s message was planned in the 60s with the design of EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow), the city where life would be like nowhere else in the world. However, was this city coherent? This work will analyze different factors and discursive layers surrounding the Disney imaginary, focusing on the unfinished project of EPCOT.

Finally, examples from the studio’s film works will be taken to observe how these factors and discursive events have manifested in the Disney dream world, where the absence of limiting boundaries makes everything possible. The objective: to discern whether this city was consistent with Disney’s dream and discourse, and to discover whether it would have worked if it had been carried out.
