Our reflections are the light we emanate, which hits a surface and come back, getting inside our retina. There is an even more disturbing fact than staring to ourselves reflected in an off screen (which makes us realize about how out we are from it, being self conciouss in our situation), and it is that about not-seeing our reflection in a screen whilst it’s on.
Light which emanates from ourselves and hits the screen reflecting surface will be hidden to our eyes by the light coming from the cathodes, the same way the sun make the stars invisible during the day.
In the case where we are standing in front of an off screen… Would that disturb us? Would watching ourselves reflected inside it, like constrained within its device dimensions make us feel uncomfortable? Why not?
When the screen is comunicating is when it actually tells us how we are, since then it hits us with the values and patterns that society has taught us from our very childhood.
And staring at that metaphore of our nude culture, it’s too exposed to be nice.
